ESIS Secures New Funding for the Future
On 5 April 2006, New Zealand's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) announced a reorganization of the APEC Energy Standards Information System (APEC ESIS) and the establishment of a Project Steering Committee consisting of several economies interested in funding the development and expansion of ESIS. Along with New Zealand, Japan and Australia have both announced funding support for ESIS during 2006. In addition, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), an international, non-profit, public-private partnership, announced in March 2006 a substantial grant to support the enhancement and expansion of ESIS to become a World Energy Standards Information System (WESIS). APEC ESIS also has in place a sponsorship agreement with the Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP), a U.S.-based non profit organization that provides software and web-based framework for incorporating non-APEC data into the APEC ESIS information system.

With support from the Australian Greenhouse Office, APEC ESIS has added two "Communities of Practice" to link together experts in different locations and nations through the sharing of e-mail, documents, and proposals for co-ordinated international action. The Communities are for compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and TV set top boxes and can be accessed from left-hand menu on the ESIS home page. url : http://www.apec-esis.org/cfl

Benchmarking Energy Performance
APEC ESIS has added a benchmarking section to its web site, with support from the Australian Greenhouse Office. The benchmarking section is designed to become a hub for sharing information and international comparisons on the efficiency and performance of energy-using appliances and equipment.
